Coco Design Takes Amusement Park Website to New Heights

Polished New Website Features Innovative Design and 508 Compliance

PENSACOLA, FL — Coco Design Associates Inc., a full-service strategic web design and internet marketing firm, has created and launched a new site at FuntownUSA.com for Funtown Splashtown USA, Northern New England’s largest family themed water and amusement park. With more than a dozen thrill rides, the award-winning, family-owned venue, about 15 minutes south of Portland, Me., will celebrate its 40th season next year. The attraction’s meticulously maintained atmosphere gels with its slogan, “Where the Great American Family Comes to Play.”

To implement a website that measured up to Funtown Splashtown USA’s lively and respected reputation, Coco Design beefed up the site with punchy graphics, an innovative park map, a dynamic content management system that enables the users to keep the site updated often with new attractions and events, and included accessibility for the blind and vision-impaired. Edward Hodgdon, an executive in Funtown Splashtown USA’s marketing department, said the site is “sure to create more buzz for our park as it takes our attraction to the next level with returning guests and generates an immediate spark with new visitors.”

Initially, Funtown Splashtown USA had approached Coco Design in 2003 to create a new e-commerce component on their website, which allowed guests to purchase tickets in advance via the internet. Within eight months of that Coco Design module being implemented, an “unbelievable response followed, and online sales tripled,” according to Hodgdon.

The centerpiece of the newly-minted website is an all-inclusive and inventive map for guests to make the most of their visit beforehand with a roving, in-depth and up-close preview of the park’s array of attractions, rides, activities and facilities.

Beyond the new site attributes, the site is now 508 compliant with adaptive technology for those who are visually impaired, a feature all government websites must have — but an option for all other websites. P. Jay Massey, president and CEO of Coco Design said, “The 508 implementation on funtownusa.com gracefully ‘degrades’ a high-impact graphic site to present a plain text site that can be easily viewed with text-based browsers, such as Lynx.”

The 508 compliance also coalesced with Funtown Splashtown USA’s corporate goals, as they consistently work to accommodate special needs groups and try making the park “inviting, easy and accessible for everyone.”
