PENSACOLA, FL When Coco Design Associates, Inc., a full-service strategic web design and internet marketing firm, began designing a new website for Northern New Englands largest family themed water and amusement park Funtown Splashtown USA they were on a mission: to feature a functional, groundbreaking map unparalleled for the amusement park industry as a prime component of the site. P. Jay Massey, president and CEO of Coco Design, knew a map was a necessary part of the creative direction to quickly and easily present Funtown Splashtown USAs many and varied attractions, activities, thrill rides and facilities in an enticing, navigable visual snapshot. Working with his team, Massey worked to build not just a map, but a virtual tour of the park, down to tiny specifics: a user can even zoom to pinpoint locations of phones and lockers. So much of the map is grounded in details that, for instance, a parent could quickly lock down an exact meeting point for kids at days end. Massey says, Were looking to be a dominant force in the map market for the amusement and water park industry. We wanted the maps functionality to be both ultra-appealing and super-easy for site visitors to dive in and use. The result is a cleverly-designed map module that invites users to scan over the entire layout of the park in five easy to navigate areas, and then allows for a double-zoom effect to narrow the scope and identify park attractions and facilities further. As they do, they can get close-ups of 14 thrill rides, coasters and flumes such as Dragons Descent, Excalibur Wooden Coaster and Thunder Falls Log Flume; a huge selection of shops, games, food venues, and family activities; 14 slides that include the Corkscrew Twist and Liquid Lightning; and two pools. According to Edward Hodgdon, an executive in Funtown Splashtown USAs marketing department, the map is an enticing lure on the website. People are very visual, and they want to see how the park lays out, which also gives them the chance to plan their day in advance, plot activities, know where theyre going before they get here, and even decide where to meet at days end.
